Download the findings of a geophysics investigation in Carham conducted by The Bernician Studies group in October 2019.
Although this report was not undertaken as part of the Carham project, Richard Carlton’s Wark investigation adds greatly to our understanding of the site of Wark castle, and its significance as a defensive bastion during the five centuries of Border conflict from the Battle of Carham in 1018 through to the nearby Battle of Flodden in 1513. It also shows that the major part of today’s Wark village has grown within the ancient boundaries of the castle.
